One of the newest areas in this field is Digital Forensics. We might link forensics with television shows like CSI Miami. Obviously though the role in real life will not be quite as stylised as the TV shows would have us believe! All the same, forensic investigation by means of complex technologies can offer a really gratifying occupation. The process being to collect & evaluate 'digital-footprints', to deliver evidence in either a criminal or civil enquiry.

In a related field to Digital Forensics & I.T. Security is 'Ethical Hacking' - which is another fairly new discipline to regulate crime. The Certified Ethical Hacker ('CEH') and the Computer Hacking Forensic Investigator(CHFI) are mid to advanced level certifications supplied through the EC Council.

The best type of training course package should also offer accredited exam preparation packages. Avoid depending on non-official preparation materials for exams. The terminology of their questions is often somewhat different - and this leads to huge confusion when the proper exam time arrives. 'Mock' or practice exams can be very useful as a resource to you - so when it comes to taking your actual exams, you don't get uptight.
