In the fast-paced world we live in, support workers who are qualified to fix PC's and networks, plus give ongoing advice to users, are vital in all areas of industry. Industry's need for better technically qualified people grows, as society becomes ever more dependent on PC's in today's environment.

Be watchful that any exams you're considering doing are recognised by industry and are current. Training companies own certificates are often meaningless. From the perspective of an employer, only the big-boys like Microsoft, CompTIA, Adobe or Cisco (as an example) will make the right impression. Anything less just won't hit the right spot.

Several companies offer a Job Placement Assistance service, to assist your search for your first position. Because of the growing skills shortage in Great Britain right now, it's not too important to make too much of this option though. It isn't such a complex operation to land your first job once you're trained and certified.

Be sure to you update that dusty old CV right away - don't wait until you've finished your exams! Getting your CV considered is far better than not even being known about. A decent number of junior jobs are got by people (sometimes when they've only just got going.) The most reliable organisations to help you find a job are usually specialist independent regional recruitment consultancies. Because they get paid commission to place you, they'll work that much harder to get a result.

In a nutshell, as long as you focus the same level of energy into landing your first IT position as into training, you won't have any problems. A number of people strangely invest a great deal of time on their training course and just give up once they've got certified and seem to suppose that interviewers know they're there.
